“A new experience of relating sits at the heart of effective therapy.”

Frequently Asked Questions

  • The initial consultation is an opportunity to describe what it is that has prompted your decision to seek psychological support. Based on the information you provide and a thorough clinical evaluation of your needs, we will begin to develop a psychological formulation of your presenting issues and, where indicated, I will be able to recommend the most appropriate treatment.

As with all clinical services, informed consent will be sought before engaging with any consultancy or therapy services, and you will have the opportunity to discuss any questions specific to your treatment needs before committing.

  • All treatments I offer incorporate both traditional and contemporary approaches to achieve the best outcomes, and National Institute for Health & Care Excellence (NICE) guidance are considered along with other individual factors specific to you when deciding on the most appropriate treatment type and duration.

I am trained in Schemas Therapy, EMDR, CBT, Mentalisation Based Therapy (MBT) & Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and in a range of consulting, motivational, and coaching techniques. Whilst Schema Therapy and EMDR are my primary treatment models, I will always choose and blend the most appropriate approach for your particular difficulties and goals.

  • The fee for an initial consultation is £250. Therapy services range from £180-£250, depending on your individual circumstances. For concierge therapy and consultancy services (available outside standard clinic times and internationally), please get in touch to discuss your individual requirements.

  • I am a therapist in the traditional sense, but I am also a Clinical Psychologist which means that I am trained in multiple therapy models and also trained to doctoral level in clinical assessment, diagnosis and psychological formulation. This includes skills in administering and interpreting psychometric assessments such as personality assessments and neuropsychological assessments. Having this broad base of clinical experience and expertise means that I will be able to assess and treat your psychological needs more fully. All Clinical Psychologists are registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC), ensuring rigorous standards of proficiency, education, training and professional conduct.

  • There is no obligation to engage in ongoing services. The first appointment is an opportunity for you to decide whether or not you would like to work with me.

Importantly, I do not undertake therapy with everyone I assess. If I think your needs may require a different approach or I think you require more intensive support than is possible within individual private therapy, I will make these recommendations. Some psychological needs for example require an MDT approach as exemplified by the NHS Care Programme Approach.

Where psychiatric care and follow up is indicated, this will also be recommended, and with your consent, a referral can be made to an experienced colleague in psychiatry.

  • Therapy sessions are typically once weekly and 50min duration, although the frequency of sessions may increase depending on need.

For some individuals, a short period of 3-6 psychological consultations is all that is needed to achieve a healthier position or to feel less alone or less anxious about a particular life stage or decision. For the majority, however, a period of mid to longer-term therapy is required to meet treatment goals, particularly where problems are emerging from one’s attachment and/or trauma history, or where problematic patterns in behaviour have become more chronic.

Some may achieve their initial treatment goal early on in therapy, but may decide to stay in therapy for a longer period to work through deeper relationship difficulties or because they continue to benefit from the stability provided through a regular therapy space. For others, the symptoms that prompt their decision to enter therapy are masking a potentially more disturbing or conflicted need and the therapy relationship creates a space for this deeper problem to be named and treated.

There are also individuals who choose to engage in therapy longer-term to maintain psychological health and to navigate their professional or personal life more dynamically and with greater self awareness.

  • Entrepreneurial and creative mental health services are available in person and online. Start-upHEALTHY is a 6-session programme to assess your mental health needs and to review your coping responses and relationship health. If any significant mental health needs or addictive behaviours are identified, a further period of treatment will be recommended.

FounderBALANCE® is a tailored mid-longer term programme with a deeper relational focus, and its duration is built around your strengths and determined by the nature of your presenting needs.

  • Yes, I am registered with all the main health insurers including Aviva, Cigna, WPA, and Allianz Healthcare. Please note that I no longer work with Vitality, AXA or Bupa UK.

Entrepreneurial and creative mental health services are not available through insurance. The exception to this is where a diagnosable mental health condition is identified during the initial assessment phase, and the treatment of the diagnosed condition itself may be covered by private healthcare insurance.

Often a GP or psychiatric referral is required to access psychological treatment via health insurance. You will need to check the limits of your individual entitlement as the type of cover available varies depending on your policy.

Your insurer will give you an authorisation code; you will need to provide this when you schedule an appointment. Some insurers provide cover for a certain number of sessions while others cap entitlement at a fixed sum. Before booking an appointment it is advisable that you confirm the limits of your cover with your insurer.

Whether you arrive in therapy in crisis, to resolve a loss, or to navigate an obstacle in your personal or professional life, I look forward to getting to know you as an individual.  And due to my love of the psychotherapeutic process and its ability to change lives, you can be assured that your treatment will be delivered with the highest standard of care, warmth and creativity - with each therapeutic journey created anew.

Beginning therapy is a personal choice.

Your personal therapy goals are unique to you. Sometimes the real goal of therapy only emerges once you feel safe enough to say it out loud.
